In my childhood, I was always schooled to make my bed in the mornings. My mother's almost daily and gentle (yeah, right) reminder, "MAKE YOUR BED!" still on occassion rings in my ears when I look at my bed and either don't have the time or want to make the effort to put it together as it should be. Because grabbing a handful of bed linen and pulling the lot up to the top of the bed to kinda-sorta straighten it out ISN'T the same as taking an extra couple of minutes, because it really doesn't take any longer than that, to:
1/ retuck the bottom sheet,
2/ pull taught and center the top sheet along with the blanket/bedspread/duvet, whatever the preference, and fold those back to show off the gorgeous design that attracted you to buy the sheet set in the first place,
3/ plump up the 1 or 2 or 4 (or more?) pillows.
Ta-da! It's that quick and easy. REALLY. And totally worth it when, at the end of your day, and you retire to your bedroom, there's the welcome sight of a tidy bed waiting to receive you and treat you to a relaxing sleep as opposed to having to wrestle with rumpled and dishevelled bed linen just to get in.
So really, if you think about it, 5 minutes in the morning TOPS! (equivalent to 0.005% of a 17 hour day) = a hassle-free winding down and thus a restful night's sleep. That sounds logical and worth it, no?
